PROPOSALS to build a new village hall in Lund look set to get the green light next week.
The village hall committee has submitted a planning application to the East Riding of Yorkshire Council which seeks to demolish the existing building and replace it with a new one on a nearby plot.
The Eastern area planning sub committee will consider the scheme on Monday, and planning officers have recommended approval subject to conditions.
The existing village hall is in the north part of the village, within a predominantly residential area.
The application seeks full planning permission for a new village hall, along with the change of use of agricultural land for recreational purposes, the construction of a car park and access road and the erection of a detached house.
If approved, the proposal will mean the entire redevelopment of the existing village hall area.
The site is within Lund Conservation area but the parish council has backed the scheme on condition that the village hall is built using materials in keeping with surrounding properties, along with other conditions relating to the size of the new house and highway issues.
Several letters of objection to the scheme have been sent to the planning committee which claim that only 33% of people in the village voted in favour of the village hall being moved, and there are seven letters of support.
The applicants have stated that the existing village hall dates to 1925 and is not insulated to modern standards and would require attention to bring it up to date. There is inadequate access for people with impaired mobility and no car park. Improvements would be extremely costly and would provide no extra village facilities.
