IT MAY have taken 65 attempts, but Rix Petroleum was finally crowned best trade stand winner at Driffield Show for the first time this year.

The Hull company, which delivers tractor diesel and home heating oil to East Yorkshire’s rural community, thrilled judges and visitors alike by displaying a Lotus Formula One car and a Q8 motorbike and sidecar on its stand.

Staff from the company also served tea and scones to more than 1,000 people, making it one of the busiest shows in Rix’s 65 consecutive years of attending.

Duncan Lambert, director at Rix Petroleum, said he was thrilled that winning the award had coincided with such a special anniversary.

“It was a fantastic day with a strong foot fall, despite heavy rain the night before,” he said.

“I’m really proud we won the best trade stand this year as not only was it Rix’s 65th year, it was also my 25th anniversary of exhibiting at Driffield Show so it seems very fitting. I always enjoy the event and we are already thinking of ways we can go one step better next year.”

Rix also raised more than £200 on the day for its elected charity, Dove House Hospice, a Hull-based charity that provides respite care for people with life-limiting illnesses.
